Dr. Gilbert Hillhouse Boggs (1875-1941) began his teaching career at Georgia Tech as an instructor in the chemistry department. He headed that department from 1925-1935, and served as dean of graduate courses from 1935-1940. Widely considered to be one of the most admired professors on campus, he was head of both the chemistry and chemical engineering departments at the time of his death in 1941.
